President's Letter

Jackie Portman | Published on 3/2/2021
Hi all,

Happy International Friendship Month! I have asked around, and some have said Friendship Day was March 3. Others said it’s the first Saturday in March. I think this year in particular it should be a whole month, so that we can have time to reconnect with friends around the world. In light of that, at the Board Meeting last Friday, we thought it would be a good idea to promote our organization’s new tagline of A World of Friends is a World of Peace.”

We are encouraging everyone to choose a host that perhaps you have not been in contact with for a while and email them a note to reconnect with them. I’m sure they will be thrilled to hear from you! In addition, please forward your emails to Diego Dude to post snippets in our April newsletter, (SanDiegoFriendshipForce@gmail.com). Hopefully we’ll be able to share a slew of letters to (and from) friends around the world (and we’ll also find out what you’ve been up to!) One of the major visions of Friendship Force is, of course, to get to know members of other clubs. They emphasize being able to get together virtually.

I’m happy to tell you that the San Francisco Bay Area club has invited us to get together virtually with them on this Wednesday, March 3 from 4:00-5:30. Put it on your calendar so we can have a strong representation from our club!

Thank you to Bob Traber for an informative program on using our own website. (I learned how to search for all the members by not entering a name in the search section). I also loved how he started at the very beginning - how to log onto the website, and what to do if we forget our password. He thoroughly reviewed all the buttons on the site and showed videos about how to do it that we can review at any time. Our website is friendshipforcesandiego.org.

Big thanks also go out to Lauren Beaudry for providing the travel photos for our “Where in the World was Friendship Force San Diego?” game. All found that working together in the breakout rooms was a real advantage! It was lovely to review the locations that our club has visited in the past. Congrats to the winner Tom Schulz!

Please put on your calendar our next General Meeting date – March 20 at 2:00 – when we will have a taped speaker discussing “how to travel safely”. This is apropos as many of us are thinking of planning trips now that you have been vaccinated. Stay tuned for our upcoming 2022 Journey calendar... Any day now! I wish you continued health and Friendship during this “Friendship Month” of March.
