Message for Jackie - FFSD President

Jackie Portman | Published on 8/3/2020

First of all, thank you to so many of you who “attended” our first Zoom General Meeting! It was wonderful to see familiar faces as well as 2 new members – Charlie Portman and Terry Johanesen. Thank you also to Sue Pasterkiewicz and her team who put together a sensational presentation of our journey to Montana.

This month we will NOT have a General Meeting, but instead we’ll have a Wine and Cheese Pairing Happy Hour on Zoom at 5:00pm on Saturday, August 22. A team of our selfless members is researching San Diego cheeses and wines they pair well with. Join us with your own wine and cheese at this festive and informative Zoom occasion!.

If you have not done so, this is your last month to fill out the Official Unofficial FFSD 2020 Census. We’ll be tallying the results at the next Board Meeting and using your info for our upcoming journey requests. Thanks to those who have submitted theirs.

I’m sorry to say Richmond, VA has cancelled. (They have cancelled all their inbound and outbound journeys for 2021). At our Board Meeting last week, we again discussed our direction with 2021 journeys and decided to go forward with the planning of the journeys and reevaluate their viability starting in January, 2021.

Speaking of journeys, I’m happy to announce that Brenda Pearson will be the Journey Coordinator (JC) for our Outbound trip to Metro Vancouver next year, with Peggy Miller as her highly-organized assistant. In addition, Peggy Miller (can you believe it?) has volunteered to be the JC for our journey to Cheyenne, Wyoming in September, 2021. Judi Newton will be her very capable assistant.

And let me finish with this excerpt from one of my favorite authors... Oh, the Places You’ll Go! - by Dr. Seuss
Congratulations! Today is your day
You’re off to great places! You’re off and away!
You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself any direction you choose.
You’re on your own. And you know what you know.
And YOU are the guy who’ll decide where to go.

I love his positive attitude about our travels that are near these days and far, hopefully soon. Stay healthy, stay home, and stay connected
