President's Message for May

Published on 5/2/2018

President’s Message for the Merry Month of May

I grew up in central Indiana when May meant one thing ----The Indy 500 Mile Race. Ladies and gentlemen start your engines as we have miles to go before May is over.

First thing in May is the biennial Western Regional Conference in Sacramento. Yes, biennial, as these conferences are going to be held every other year and the world conferences are in the alternating years. The World Conference in 2019 is going to be in Denver, Colorado USA. Maybe many of you will attend??? Next week Nancy and Roger Walsh are home hosting Ambassadors for the post conference mini home stays, beginning May 5. Please contact Nancy and let her know how YOU can help. Day hosts and airport pick-ups will be really appreciated!

At our General Meeting in April the snack awards were won by Bonnie Andrews with her Homemade Vegetarian Bean Dip and Barbara Copeland for her Very Chocolately Brownie Bites. Incidentally Bonnie designed our San Diego Club pin. Thanks also to Barbara for substituting for Mary Beth Livengood, our new Merchandise Chair. The merchandise for sale included our San Diego Club pins, the California tea towels, the green luggage tags and wine stoppers.

This month I want to recognize Candi Martinez for her contributions to our club this year. Candi accepted a board position and has attended every board meeting so far and in June will host our board meeting, In January, her husband Carlos' Rosca de Reyes won one of the snack awards. Do you think that Carlos made it or was it really made by Candi??? Candi worked with the committee for the Flathead Valley Journey and she was responsible for our afternoon at the Mission San Diego de Alcala plus she and Carlos hosted one of the Friendship Dinners. When Gin Myers needed someone to assist with greeting at our General March Meeting Candi filled in. At our April board meeting when Carol Tatum reported that her committee for the New Zealand Journey wanted to include a tour of the Old Globe Theater and was having difficulty getting in touch with them, Candi came through with her connections with The Old Globe. When help was needed for the New Member Orientation Meeting in April, Candi pitched in even though she was a new member herself! Thank you, Candi, for helping in so many ways. What in the world would we do without Candi?

In May, our out-going Journey to Moscow led by Michael Boyko departs and, yes, that will be many miles!
In June, our general meeting will be June 16, and our board meeting will be the day BEFORE at Candi Martinez’s home. The New Zealand planning committee has requested a general meeting in July which will be on Saturday, July 28--- the fourth Saturday.

In Friendship,
Sandra
