November Message from Tom

October 12th - 17th, our club hosted a large group from Northern Colorado Friendship Force club. It was an Exchange in return for the unique Exchange that they gave us in 2015. In thanks, they gave our club a $100 check to our charity, Father Joe’s Villages, to help the homeless of downtown San Diego. Thirty-three of our 80 members pitched in! So, thank you very much to all who helped, especially first-time ED, Andy Alongi, who implemented another innovative Exchange. See their good reviews later in this newsletter.

To sign-up for our exciting March 16 - 29, 2017 “Partner” Exchange to Vietnam, and perhaps an extension to somewhere else in exotic South East Asia, call ED Brenda Pearson now! See details later in the newsletter about this unique and different, for us, style of Exchange opportunity. It is part cruise, part homestays and part tour. We will need firm commitments and money by December, so this is your last chance before we open it up to all of FFI. We will then discuss our extension tour options/preferences.

Our Sunshine Department, Carrie Schulz, has been busy lately, sending cards to the families of our dearly departed recent members: Lily Banales, Wanda Goeken, Jerry Heveron, Naomi Egley, and now in October, our Charter Member, Jewel Mc Ilraith. She is survived by our Charter Member Jim Mc Ilraith. We received a very nice Thank You card from their daughter and e-mail from Jim saying how deeply they both enjoyed traveling and hosting with Friendship Force. Also, please send your healing thoughts to Mike Pasterkiewicz who also attempted to test his spine vs. the laws of gravity from the top of a ladder.

Pat Rudner will accept sign-ups at the November meeting for our Holiday Party on Saturday, December 17, from 1:00 - 4:00. It will be a luncheon Fiesta of several Mexican choices, including vegetarian, at Casa De Pico in Grossmont Center and promises to be a Fun time of relaxed fellowship after a busy year. Well done by all!

There will be no General meeting on the 3rd Saturday of this month. Rather, join us on the 1 st Saturday, November 5th, for our . Annual Installation Luncheon. We will be installing two new Board Members. Come to thank them for accepting these positions and to say “Thank You” to our departing Board Members, Judy Anderson and Andy Alongi, for their years of service to our club. See the Luncheon details and the nominations slate later in this newsletter. Please bring your check book with you to pay for your reservation to the Holiday Party and also for your next year’s membership dues. Membership Dues are Due in November. Please, we don’t want a repeat of the confusion that affected our membership rolls last year caused by delayed dues payments!
